| Originally built in 1883, 120 yards off shore and due south of Drum Point, it marked the northern approach to the Patuxent River. It is now located on Soloman Island, Maryland and is part of the Calvert Maritime Museum.
It is a white wooden hexagonal structure and built on seven wrought-iron screwpiles. Because all of the parts were prefabricated and numbered, assembly of the lighthouse was accomplished in only 33 days. A fourth-order Fenzel Lens showing a red light was installed and lit for the first time on August 20, 1883. In 1911 the light was changed to a white light with three red sectors. These red sector lights alerted boaters to the presence of shoals. Looking closely at the glass cupola of the lighthouse one can see red glass panes. Four 200 gallon tanks collected roof water for the residents of the lighthouse. The residence consisted of four equal sized rooms.
