Museum Displays

The Recycling / Pollution Museum is divided into two parts. The Recycling part shows students and visitors the different types of waste our society produces and what we as individuals can do to help eliminate or reduce the impact of waste on the environment. Many of the displays show different working environments and that type of waste each environment produces. As an example the display showing an automobile repair shop discusses the type of waste this facility produces, i.e., oil, tires, metals, etc. On display are different recycled items. An example is the brick made from recycled glass.

The pollution half of the museum illustrates the different forms of pollution and what we as a socitey can do to help alleviate some of it. One display that always grosses out the kids is a 5 gallon water bottle stuffed with fish killed during the what is commonly called "a fish kill." During extremely hot weather (usually summertime) the waterways are choked with dying fish. This usually is related to the depletion of dissolved Oxygen in the water and use to occur on a regular basis. However, today, for the most part, these types of "fish kills" are rare.
