As vistors continue to view the room, they will soon realize that the back of the benches of each row served as the desk for the students in the next row. The one exception is the front row. Students who sat in the front row had to use their slateboards as their desk. During 4th grade field trips, students experience, just a little, what it might have been like to get their education in a school like this. They play games, typical of the time period and they experience a lesson which is provided on the front slateboards.
