The parent's room was built with the fireplace. It was the bedroom and living room for the mother and father of the family. One of the chores for the boys of the family was to built the fire in the fireplace. These fires were built on an early winter morning.
Rules were laid down and enforced by these people. Decisions were made by them concerning the role of other family members as to work, play, education, spare time, budgeting, and punishment. The heads of the family often treated and cared for the sick. Depending upon the size of the family, the room could also be shared with other family members.
